I just caught word of a 2 cent gas tax hike on the already 3 cent gas tax. They are doing it for road repairs, which are much needed in this damn town. I would like to take a moment and blame the tards who bike everyplace. Because they are paying ZERO (assuming a bike is their soul means of transportation) road taxes but they are using the same roads. I say we charge extra for bike repair kits, tires, and bikes or make a manditory registration/taxation process for bikes and use the income to maintain roads and bike trails. Oh and their bikepaths I pay for those too with my gas taxes.
I am ok with college students who cannot afford cars or parking.
I'm already paying into all kinds of goverment funded things for poor people who are too fat and lazy to get off their asses and get a real job and who raise kids who have to be put in any number of special programs because of learning difficultys and/or behavioral problems.
Why must I pay for bike paths that I don't use. I'm upset by the fact that the biking populous of this hippie damn town gets a free ride of the gas taxes I pay for. I bet the increased gas tax will just make more people who would be driving their VW minibus' around ride their bikes even more thus causing another hike in the damn tax.
I have come up with a solution. Buy gas in surrounding citys, Glenwood, Springfield, Loraine (if they have a gas station), Creswell, etc.

I'm thinking about sending in prices since I go by 5 stations in the morning

Posted by: Tiffany on January 25, 2005 08:00 PMHEY!! I resent that! I ride a bike but I'm not a hippy! Well, I mostly ride the bus, or walk... but still! And those bike paths are good for walking and jogging too. You should use them!

I have no problem with the vehicles that use the roads paying fees for those roads. The problem I have is the City of Eugene taking the existing and future "road tax" and using it for non-road programs.
Don't you think our city is OVERDUE for an outside audit?
Posted by: Maddie Dog on January 28, 2005 04:58 PMToday I heard there is a law that says there is a $5 bike registration fee. But it is not really enforced. I will enforce it! and the fine for not being registered $50. $5 for the registration and the remainder for me.
I think the whole state could stand an outside audit.
