Even though I've lived here for 3 years now I still don't have the level of comfort navigating eugene and surrounding areas that I did in salem when I left it 3 years ago. I want/need to find some new places to take pictures of/at. I've got a plan though. Google maps, and USAphotoMaps to kind of scout some places out from above then maybe drive to/by the location and a) return later for shooting b) shoot then.
Also I'll take recommendations.
Posted by Ben at September 26, 2006 05:17 PMSo far the best thing I've done is just drive... drive until I'm outta gas. I make notes of a particular place or a shot I'd like to get and I remember when to return. The sunset behind the farms in west eugene makes for an incredible and dramatic backdrop in the evening. There is some sort of barn like structure along Highway 20 and I have a memory of driving by it last winter at twilight with this dramatic glow coming out of the clearstory windows. Last weekend I drove along 58 and decided to come back in few weeks when some of the trees turn colors. They will make great postcard-y shots. I was planning on heading right to some trails but I drove until I hit 3000 feet, near Willamette Pass. My best pictures came from that spontaneous drive. So you never know.
Look for dramatic hikes. Sweet Creek Falls near Sweet Home on 126 is highly recomended. As are the hiking paths along the ocean near Heceta Head.

I've seen some really great things and really wanted to capture them but all often they are not in a good place to stop and take some pictures or anyplace near to stop safely and walk to take pics.
hikes are something ive considered. so far I've just done the Skinners and Spencers in town.
