Plane got in around 12:05. Ate some leftover pizza at Chris' place hung out for a while watched some Robot Chicken which is damn funny. Dropped Cat off in Salem got here around 5:10. Unloaded cameras, Sorted pics, unpacked at somepoint, and most recently just got out of the shower.
The city planner's of Denver should have put the crackpipe down before they finialized those plans. Now 1 way grids we are used too but half the blocks are triangular the one way grids weren't grids because 2 or 3 streets in a row would be the same damn direction. So we ended up quite lost a few times.
The wedding was great. The groom (another Chris who I've known longer than the other Chris I spend so much time witih) has come a long way since 2000. I'm proud of him and happy for him and his new wife. I didn't get to say much more than Hi to her. I didn't get to say much to the Chris as things were quite busy the whole time. But just the fact that he chose her and did it is enough for me to know he means it as if anyone who knew him or knows him.
I took a lot of blury pictures. None at the wedding. A few may end up on the site.
Our plane will be departing around 1:somethingish. So We will be leaving Chris' place in the next hours or so to do all that airport crap.
I'm loading my laptop up with some entertainment for the flight and maybe for once we are there.
I might not be posting much for the next few days. I will have my laptop with me but time to post or connection may not be there.
I hope to take some pics.
I've got my swim trunks, my belt, my shoes, and a couple T-shirts ready to go. Leaving a few days unaccounted for. I also have to decide what entertainment to bring with me. Like to I get my MP3 player out or My Clie? Pack my laptop? GPS? WalkieTalkie? Leatherman? Booze?
I washed my car. I'm thinking I may wax it again maybe monday. Also in news related to my car I got a call from the BMW dealership today apprently the key I ordered for it in January of 2004 is here. I always assumed the spare I got from the place I bought my car(not the BMW Dealer) a month after I got it wasthe one I paid for and they just picked up for me or something. So Monday I may pick that up and the light for my dash.
When I get back I might go buy a few other things like an Ipod mini 4gig that is only $200 now and Grand Turismo 4 for PS2 because it's got five count them 5 BMWs many of them are the ///M Flavor.
I got screwed out of my training at work cause I won't be attending on Friday. Oh well. Just means I do my job instead.
I'm looking foward to the drive to Portland come Thrusday or Friday for some reason. Today I filled my tank up with the good stuff for the drive I've still got to pack but I don't want to pack up the nice clothes too soon before the trip. I should make a list of things to not forget like toothbrush, clean boxers, and other personal items.
Maybe my new CDs will arrive before I go. Then I will have more new things to listen to on the drive there. Maybe even on the flight depending on how I pack.
I'm bored.
So I've got the frame setup to download images and reboot to reload the inedex of images. This will be set to happen late at night. Then the difficutlty becomes setting up the server to a) move the files so they don't get downloaded each and every time the frame goes to download images... b) a page to display the images uploaded so far. c) some clean up proceedure for the frame and server to archive images and move them around.
Most all of it can be done with cron, taskscheduled and batch or shell files. I'm going to lookinto a other things as well to see if it can be made simpler as of now it's very simple just many steps. But by the time I get all that other crap worked out it may not be so simple. Maybe dusty will find something for me. He's good at that kinda stuff.
I'm gonna go sleep on it hopefuly I won't get any amazing ideas in the middle of the night cause then I will a) not sleep well because of it b) forget c)get up and do something about withch takes us back to a...
I've got an uploader form thing in the works for uploading photos for the RSSframe. I've been feeling very unmodivated today I'm amazed I had the modivation to get up and take a nap earlier this afternoon.
I do have to give dusty props for the from that will be used to upload your images to me to put on the frame. I demaned he write me a form for it and I would do the rest. He points me to a tool that did it all. Uploads, adds info to a database. I did manage to get modivated enough to install that and make a form or 2 I just have to make the rest of the pages now and um then let you people have at it so you can invade my home with your pictures.
I need suggestions for a email address @junknstuff for my cellphone. It's got real email and I'm paying something like $20 a month for the email/internet feature so I'd like to use it. I will add the email address as soon as my account (junknstuff) gets upgraded so I can again add email addresses right now they have disabled a few administrative tools like email because of a platform migration/upgrade and mine has not yet. But I think that is happening soon.
Today Tiffany gets paid to go take some pictures of someone she works with. So thats cool. Today I might do nothing.
I'm thinking of making it so users can upload photos for my newest photoframe. Would you upload photos?
1 day of the weekend remains. Then I go back to work and don't do much work I sit in training. Then thursday after work I drive my ass to Portland and fly out Friday around 1.
Just watched Collateral. Good movie. Crazy. I've determined I'm a fan of dreamworks.
I need to pester chris for an nolonger in active service KVM. I think he's got one at home. I have 2 port but decided today I wanta 4 port so I can play more with fedora or at least hook up the spare machine as a box to abuse in one way or another. I will just get that when I come back from Portland when I am coming back from CO next week.
Bought a suit like thing yesterday for the wedding for a hue wad of money hopefuly it fits well once it comes time to wear it. I also bluetooth headset just like Chris' for my phone he likes it pretty well and it works well with his Black Berry so I figure it will for mine as well, I have yet to use it but hey thats ok. I still have to pay for the flight to and hotel stay in Colorado I think that comes to another $250 or so and a gift as well. Oh and gas to get to Portland. So I by the time this is all said and done I will have spent a small fortune. But it's a chance to get out of the state for a couple days and spend time with good friends and see a friend I haven't seen in years so it's all good.
Game night last night. I suck at most all the games we play. But it's fun.
I've also got a couple CDs on the way.
Nikon D2Hs seems like s step backwards as far as the MP rating goes but I do wish my camera had a GPS hookup and a wifi accessory.
I just resetup the usage info for the websites on my home server. The only problem is I cannot access them I keep getting the damn 403 access denied message but I have checked, rechecked and adjusted the permissions and readjusted the permissions again and no love. it's not all that important but I will get to it eventualy.
Game night tonight. Hike up some hill in town with Nathan tomorrow. Hopefuly the hike will provide another good opertunity to use my camera.
So back in the day when gmail was taking inital applications I signed up. I didn't get in. Until now. I got an invitation from the Gmail team not someone I know that has 50 to give away. I don't know if I'm gonna sign up or not yet.
This weekend may be a little busy. Got game night tomorrow night. Got stuff to buy for wedding, like clothes and gifts.
I got my Bran Van 3000 CD yesterday. It's interesting. Not bad. Fairly good. Gotta get it in my car now. And figure out what to put with it and also figure out how to keep track of whats in and where its at.
Ok the server it's database and websites are back up. all and all i think most things are intacted. I'm quite happy that it went as smoothly as it did I did hit a snag but it was solved once I got to it. All that is left is getting my little LCD going again but that isn't even a big deal.
But now it's bed time so I will deal with my little LCD tomorrow.
Down time. I'm gonna be taking my home/badcommand/silverpixels/ihatecancer/database server down for a few hours sometime soon (maybe after I finish this post.) To update the OS. Hopefuly all goes well. Worst Case we lose a few website settings and databases. I've attempted to back it all up but we will see if I know what I'm doing....
The page for my latest project is a bit weak but it's up. And it's TheRSS FRAME. The newest most advanced Picture frame I've made from a craptop yet.
They signed me up for training on some other stuff for next week but I'm going to have to miss friday because I have the day off to go to Colorado to go to a wedding over the weekend. Oh well this officaly means I will be doing like no work next week.
I finshed my new project that will remain a mystery for a while longer. Even though it is completed. It remains a mystery because I wish to build a page to show it off a little bit. That is in the works. I got too caught up working on the project and completly spaced the meetup tonight which kinda sucks.
They have been forcing overtime on us at work. So that will mean a little more money come payday.
I'm gonna go work on that page.
25 degrees out this morning when it came time to scrape the frost from my car. My fingers had nearly gotten complete feeling back by the time I got to work.
No call from crafty type store that said my stuff should be ready by today so I assume it's not ready as they indicated they would call once it was ready. So perhaps I will go tomorrow and look for big velcrow to hold my sub down. I've got a couple other ideas for how to make it stay in place but I like the idea of velcrow for some reason.
Sounds like Nathan will be joining my department department sometime in March.
I spent something like 5 min chiseling the ice off my windshield thismorning. There were also beads of ice all over the rest of my car which remain until it thaws out while parked at work. I came home and washed my car.
I've got a couple things to figure out for my car. 1) how to anchor the sub down. 2) how to protect the driver (speaker) from flying debris in the trunk. I'm thinking of a trip to home depot to solve one or both of the problems. For hopefuly not a lot of money.
Tomorrow I should be able to pick up the stuff from the place to work on my project..
Also someone remind sometime in March do donate some money to the EFF. I want a t-shirt.
Work tomorrow. Ick.
3 day weekend coming up. YAY.
Paid soon. Yay
Having to pay for air-fare, nice clothes for wedding, and wedding present(s), Ick.
See old friends. Yay.
I think I need a drink.
Hung out with Nathan for the afternoon.
Tiffany got her 20d today. She is borrowing a lense from me until her lense shows up in the mail sometime this week.
Today I got an external enclosure for my yamaha burnner. That is a much faster at burning CDs than the DVD+-RW drive in my computer. This will also allow me to pack up a burner and use it at other places if i need too as my laptop currently lacks that feature.
Found out that I am going to have to buy nice clothes for the wedding in Colorado. like sport coat and crap. And that SUCKS. Oh well. I'll figure something out.
I purchased and requested things for my project but they won't be ready til um Tuesday. But once I get that stuff the project will be nearly done.
So I was poking around at the mini website and I left the computer for a while and when I came back I saw a strange and humorus message.
I also purchased yet another CD mainly because the song shows up in this movie.
I've started on my CD index system/method. I've got all the data for the 1st set of discs. Now what do to with it. More on that if I ever manage to work it out in a relativity sane way.
Now I go purchase crap for my othe project.
No i-pod for Chris. Looked around for ipods for Chris to mostly complete his car stereo. The guy at Cffice Depot is a dick. But he will get one in Portland once he goes back.
Work was again hammered beacuse of the same problem yesterday. But it's weekend now so it's ok.
Tomorrow I think I'm gonna work on the project thing if I remember too. Also plan on washing my car this weekend too. I may do the mirror thing next month once I get back and recover from a wedding in colorado.
Went to Nathans to teach him network stuff afterwords went to pickup Chris and have dinner and compare subsettings to find out why his wasn't working. Just a matter of switching a little switch.
We have Chris tonight. He forgot to book a room. Chris has printer for the Nathan. But not with him.
Took a ton of calls at work today because of a new problem recently discovered with the software. So I spent most of the day telling people if they were affected and if so where they could get a new build because we don't do patches.
Good luck to Nathan on interview.
I just finshed renaming a bunch of mp3s taken from my CDs to at least be close to a standard naming convention. My fingers hurt. This will hopefuly help with my tracking thing that I have to figure out.
I reordered the CD I didn't get last time as I got email that they refunded my money from it I also ordered another one.
I think I am gonig to get back to my other project now that I am no longer side tracked by my ego not wanting Chris to finish his sub install before me. I need to get some bits and pieces to do the project I was distracted from. I also should purchase a bit of software, yes I said purchase.
So I've sorta figured out a way to track all the music in my car. The thing I don't like about it the paper. Not using it. But the ammount of it. It now comes out to a page and change with a an 8 point font. I can get 2 maybe 3 on a page if I use a 4 point font but I think most other people would have difficulty reading that. I want a static or mostly static semi elegant method to figure out what artist/song is on what cd. I have some ideas for more convoluted methods that would require the use of extra technology which normaly I am ok with, but the whole point is make it so passengers and I can find a artist/song and get to it with minimal interaction/training to do so and not needing more overhead or infrastructure like a database or something that plugs in...
My more convoluted ideas so far.
Static HTML pages on a Palm hand held.
Disadvantages: needs power/charging, and screen is small and may not be easy to navigate/use. Possibly not searchable.
Advantages: small, easy to update, free (already have 2 sony clies doing nothing).
Webpage that I point my phone to get the info
Disadvantages:Takes power, Requires I be in service area for internet access, would require teaching to have someone use it, slow to very slow, small, portable, always with me.
Advanages:Easy to update, flexible display methods(by artist, by song, album etc..), searchable, Free,
laptop/table type device with docs?html?pdfs?
Down side: needs external power, Size, Potentialy difficult to use, not easy to just put in glove box, weight.
Advanages: easy to update, flexible display/browse methods, powerful, could be made easy to use, mostly free I already have a toshiba stylistic1200 I would need a power adapter for the car... which woudln't be too dificult.
My list on paper solution:
Down side: easy to damage, need another light source to read it in the dark, could be cumbersome to search through.
Up: easy to replace, while easy to damage still fairly sturdy and resistant to many abuses, easy to store, very cheap, easy to update, no power requirements, little to no work to keep it functioning (other than print of a new one).
Perhaps I should ditch the changer and get a 40gig Ipod and just dump all my damn music to it and then not worry about it anymore at the cost of another $500 or more dollars. But that's too expensive for such a trival problem for now.
Anyone have ideas/suggestions?
For Nathan Choweiler Shepard
It's starting to look like a warehouse in the living room with all the boxes that have been showing up and or are getting ready to go up on Ebay. Tiffany got a rather large lighting kit today(which will go nicely with her Canon 20D that she ordered yesterday), another small box of something else and missed a delivery from Fedex. I've got a laptop and some parts laying around.
I didn't sleep so well last night. I slep great between 6am and 7am then my alarm woke me rather harshly then I fumbled with it a bit to turn it off as I was jolted out of my deep sleep leaving me a bit disoriented. Most of the time I am ready for the alarm or expecting it, but not this morning.
Work was decent. The ride to and from sounded great.
Chris will be around this weekend hopefuly we can figure out how to get his sub installed if not we will have to vist good guys. But We already got most of the sub and amp ready on Saturday just a matter of running the wires in the car now. Unless chris has changed his game plan.
I went nuts yesdterday and went to Portland to buy the Alpine KCE-510M Amp Link. And also the sub and arranaged for installation this morning. So I am poor until next payday in another 9 days. I'm kinda anxious to get it done so I can like the results and be glad I spent the money. So far I've spent a lot of money and have a small box and a slightly larger box holding the amp.
Today is also laundry day. Meaning I drop my car off and pray we make it back in time to get my car befor the place closes.
Got to hang out with Chris yesterday when we went to portland for the part. Infact he sold/gave me his because he didn't want to hunt one down for us. So I payed for the one he ordered at Magnolia Hi-Fi.
On the way to Portland, just out side of Eugene. About a million birds took off from a field next to I5 and flew right over. I thought it looked kinda creepy just a huge mass of flying black specs not quite moving in unison but moving together and as birds do. They craped all over my car so I need to wash the rest of that off today. Fuckin birds.
On the way home there was semi that was in theprocess of being pulled back onthe road by a tow truck.
I am now a proud owner of a MRD-M301 mono amp from Alpine. I have yet to get the other pieces I need like the sub but I can get a decent deal on one at good guys, if I act fast. Also I want the KCE-510 to control all the crazy details and features of the amp. And other stuff too I'm sure. It might take me a while to gather the rest of the parts I need then. It all depends on how reckless I end up feeling and acting.
So ya I'm not gonna be outdone by Chris completly. He will have a very simmilar setup. The primary diffrences will be he doesn't have a changer, but he does/will have the Ipod adapter, His sub is a 12 Mine will be a 10, and he has stock speakers all around where I have infinity's. But we will/do have the same amps and same head unit. He just may end up done 1st.
I got somekinda invite to CHI 2005 in Portland. Apprently it's got something to do with computer human interaction. It's in April and most likely gonna cost a lot of money so I doubt I will be going. Sounds kinda cool though.
Work was crazy busy most of the day then dead at the end. I'm quite glad it's weekend. Now to find something to do.
Chris just got an amp for his car. He already has the sub just no box for for it. He has the Alpine 9835 on the way already. Thats the same Alpine I'm Rockin. We get to install that next weekend. I'm almost tempted to go get a sub setup for my car. I've been toying with the idea for a while. Maybe I will get an esitmate. If I could have it done for less than $350 I just might do it.
Got a bonus from work $203. Now to decide what to spend it on. Chip for my car? Modable X-box?, Window Tint?, Sub?, another watch? Component speakers up front?, something else? I just don't know. The possiblitys are not quite endless but there are a lot of possiblitys thats for sure.
So I'm working on the software portion of my little project. It's coming along nicely for the most part. But apprently it will only update some of the data 2 times a day. which kinda sucks.
A little help for Dusty: Frederick's Law.
What's this you may ask. Well you see dusty wants his spoof page of dictionary.com to come up as the #1 result in google. If you do the same youw ill be helping. Dusty will be greatful. If you post such a link you should let him know. Maybe he will put your name on the credits or a list of thanks.
So my internet was down for like an hour or so. Most of Speakeasy in Washington was out apparently. It was partly back up by the time I got through to support. I could access speakeasy and msn. Slowly other sites became accessable as they fixed the router issue they were having.
So I almost got the OS ready to go for my little project. I think I will keep the details quite until it's done or until I get bored of keeping them on the down low. I've mostly got my mind made up... It is not mostly a matter of gathering the stuff I need. Perhaps I will do that over the weekend if the soft-portion goes well.
I got another laptop from Chris. It's older, slower and no onboard nic, and the cdrom is MIA. I'm thinking may hack something together from it. I currently await the password from chris for to play around with it before I make any decisons on what may happen to it. Again if I come up with a good project I will let you all know.
Today was better than yesterday I talked to a couple people with clues. I was so overjoyed when I got my 1st customer with a clue today I almost cried. Ok I'm lying but damn it was a nice change if even only for a few fleeting moments. At least the rest of the week should be down hill from here.
Just got off the phone with Chris. The laptop will be a project laptop. The software process has begun... More updates as the project unfolds.
I got Sealab 2021 Season 2 in hopes it would help my day a little better. Today was rough at work. Tards, morons, assholes, butt heads and technicaly inept people all day long.
I also noticed a funny sound from my car. Hopefuly nothing serious. So it's made my list of things to get looked at once I can find time to. Which may not be until after Colorado. Hopefuly sooner if it doesn't go away or if my check engine light comes on. It kinda sounds like it's comeing from my VANOS unit.
I'm so ready for this week to be over and it's only tuesday.
