The AC is out

So the AC is out in my part of the building at work. Apparently it was out all weekend so its 80+ in the area I work. They did bring us ice cream to settle us down and make us feel better. This happened a couple years ago in a diffrent part of the building and we got ice cream and cold fruit over the span of a few days...

If I was the HVAC company that maintained all the stuff for our site I would have at least one of every possible fuse on hand, maybe even spare motors for the various systems as well.

Today it's actually cooler outside than inside. Which is often ok in months like January or when it is cold out side.

Charting

Today during one of our meandering conversations that Alex and I tend to have LaserDiscs and the players came up and a discussion of their popularity or lack there of and when that popularity may have been.

Alex believing that they were most popular in the late 90s as the wikipedia said in 1998 LaserDisc Players were in 2% of American houses. I believed they were more popular in the late 80s and early to mid 90s.

Thankfully wikipedia also had a link to the LaserDisc Database. Which has an "Advanced search" that was somewhat baffling at first but once we figured out that the check boxes meant not we were good to go. I did 20 queries one for each year from 1980-2000 (the search returned nothin in 1978,1979 or 2001) looking only for releases in the USA in NTSC format and took the numbers down in a CSV text file.

Already we had gone too far with this half baked idea. We have no idea what sales numbers for the players or movies were. But Alex had half joked about wanting a chart for it which I had already been thinking as well and was ready to make as the text file was CSV formatted and ready to be loaded into excel and/or Google docs.

Without further ado, I bring you the chart: LaserDisc Releases per Year in the USA....

Note:I did once have a LaserDisc Player but could never find any decent movies for it, I did have a couple and managed to rent one like once. I think I got it in middle school and dismantled it sometime in High School.

En Route

So I checked the status of my car it is now En Route, it now is on a boat somewhere at sea. In theory my new 128i is actually getting geographically closer to me.

After doing some internet investigation. I figure another three to six weeks for it to actually arrive considering time at sea is seems to be around 21-24days then give it another week at the prep center in Oxnard California and time to transport it to the local dealer for me to pick up. Which is still within the 60 to 90 day window they gave me considering its been 45 days since I ordered it and more like 40 or so days since the order was actually accepted/entered.

So I should have enough time to pay off my new TV and save up for an extra tank of fun juice, or half tank considering the trend of gas prices as of late.

1080p

I got a new TV over the weekend. A nice 32inch Samsung with all sorts of HD awesomeness. 1080p and built in HD tuner.

For the past few years I've been using an old Commodore 64 Monitor. Which is actually older than some of my friends. I'd used the C64 monitor off and on for at least the last 12 or more years for watching movies and playing games. In the last year or so it has started to show its age by displaying a bit of a flicking and jumping image. I'm going to keep it around, as many times as its come in handy or proved its use there is no point in tossing just yet.

I'm also kicking about the idea of using the new TV as a PC monitor and/or setting up a HTPC kind of deal for it. I'd have to get a few cables and parts to set such a beast up, but it could be fun.

Carless...

Andrea sold my car yesterday. So after a short trip to my bank and getting a cashiers check and then a trip to the dealer I put more down on my new car, which will hopefully be getting on a boat and be on its way over soon.

So I'm with out car and again reduced to bumming rides and taking the bus. The upshot is I will save a bit of money while I'm carless. No spending money on gas, no money on insurance, no money for bus rides (work gives free bus passes).

I do miss my car. But she went to a what I can only assume will be a good home. It went to a couple in the same company and they do enjoy it quite a bit. They are planning a trip out of town to drive it some. There are some streches on the way to Bend or the Coast.

Interviews...

I'm waiting to get conformation about an interview in Portland tomorrow afternoon. It could be a trick getting to the interview as Andrea is showing my car to someone right now, which is kind of another interview I suppose. If it sells I not only give her $200, I will have to take a train or borrow a car from someone to get to the interview in Portland. I had thought about train then ride down with Chris when he came down for work but he will be here in the morning so it doesn't work.

No matter... It'll work out.

Mein New Auto

So I mentioned here recently that I'm getting a new car. I'm still waiting for it. But it has been built and is now "awaiting transport" so within the next few weeks I should take delivery of my 128i. I've still got to sell my car. I've had a few lookers but no buyers. I may step up the sale effort and drop the asking price. Anyone interested in a 94 325i?

Neat Connections.

I was over at Technology Review reading about the open source multitouch display when I saw a name that I knew. Addie Wagenknecht. Couldn't forget a name like that. A few years back she was living in Eugene and we had a couple mutual friends that climbed so I've climbed with Addie. I also turned her resume in at the place I work. But now shes back on the East coast and being creative with eyebeam .

Very cool. I doub't shed remember me much as we only met maybe twice and she seemed to be a very busy social type person. But I remember.
