Kindle Please

I want a Kindle2. I don't quite know exactly why I want one. I've never been much of a reader. I know its a gadget and I do like my gadgets but most of the time I do pretty good at not wanting gadgets I know I wouldn't use, hence no PSP or Nintendo DS...

I am really drawn to this thing. I highly doubt it would turn me into an avid reader. I may use subscribe to and read blogs, magazines and maybe a paper. I doubt I'd use it to listen to music as I've already got an iPod for that but I suppose it could be a possibility. It also seems like it could be a great device to have on a flight.

I do think I will hold off for now on getting one but I for how long that will last is another question all together.

It's a hearing aid.

I'm getting tired of these commercials for the "Sound Amplifiers". You know the ones they usually start with an older person missing out on some of the finer points in life like Bingo or the Late show cause they can't hear then they proceed to show someone younger using it to hear a member of the opposite sex make a flattering comment made about them discretely. ITS A HEARING AID. The technology isn't new. It also makes you look like one of those jackasses who just walk about with their bluetooth head sets, you know just in case they get a call and can't be bothered to get their phone or hands free out of their pocket to answer.

Mini Vacation

We caught part of the Tour of California Prologue. Before lance rode by we got too cold and wondered off to do something else. But it was interesting.

We also did some wine tasting at Valley of the Moon. We also caught Taken and also had plenty of delicious foods.

Can't wait until the next visit.

XM Sirius(ly) hurrting.

Sirius XM is circling the drain. Which is sad as it is an awesome concept and service, they did well we delivery and have devices that let you save and playback songs you listened too much like an iPod but no PC. Great sound quality and coast to coast coverage and ability to listen to one station the whole time with no to minimal interruption, as well as specialized programming for things like sports and news that are not in all markets.

I think I have some ideas that could help their situation.

  • Instead of raising rates lower them or make them free and start airing commercials like current terrestrial radio.

  • Get Viacom, Clear Channel and the likes to invest heavily and provide more content.

  • Provide the ability like with satellite TV to get TV local stations delivered via the service or subscribe to stations out of the market area. Since I moved to Eugene I have nearly stopped listening to the radio all together but there are stations in Portland, Seattle, and Southern California I'd listen to if I had the choice. This of course would be dependent upon a deal or partnership with companies like Viacom and Clear Channel.

  • Let some talent go or pay them less. Paying Howard Stern 100 Million a year isn't making you profitable, frankly I'm not sure anyone should make that much money for talking for a living. Hell give me a paltry two million one time and I will work for you for the rest of my life.

I mean it's fairly obvious their current business plan isn't working out for them and the merger didn't fix anything either so maybe they should change their business plan.

Latitude

Yesterday I manually updated my G1 to RC33 as I got tired of waiting for Tmobile to push the over the air update to me. So I've got Latitude now. It's kind of fun. 2 of my 3 contacts on it were out of their respective home cities traveling, I could see Chris was in Seattle for work and Joe was visiting with his Girlfriend's family in southern Oregon, I think. It's coming soon for iPhone.

Latitude is pretty fun. Perhaps if I had more local or localish friends with smart phones it would be more useful...

Quick Post From Lunch Break.

I've been in training all week. DNS training then Active Directory training until tomorrow. The DNS training went smoothly. The AD training not so much its been more of a train wreck as most of the labs don't work as they should.

News: Picked up an Apple TV last Friday. Installed Boxee on it. Apple TV on it's own is pretty slick. Boxee is alright and adds some nice functionality but i think its a bit clunky and slow. But it could mean the old Xbox gets even less use.

Waiting for the RC33 update for my phone to play with new features, like voice search and latitude. Cmon' T-mobile and push the update to me already.
