Since last summer I've been keeping an eye on craigslist for people seeking a photographer, and getting in touch with people that way. Which has been miss and hit. The hits haven't been all that solid of hits but they were hits none the less, most people don't respond or flake out at some point. I admit I flaked on one person but I at least let them know I wasn't going to be able to do it, they were also awfully demanding/picky for someone not willing to pay.
I am quite comfortable enough with my camera and most of my gear getting more comfortable all the time. So I don't often find my self entirely stumped by a shooting situation and can usually make something happen, that I and others will like.
I've also got great support from Kala. She helps pose people all while holding a strobe in freezing rain and walking backwards to help get a shot. She also help pick shots after the shoot to process and touch up. She wrote up a bio blurb about me to be sent in to go to print when one of my photo was selected to be published by Perceptions Magazine earlier this year.
But I'm not sure where to go or what to do from here. Do I focus on on a type or style or niche? Do I just take more photos? Do I get official and register a business? Do I post my services at places like craigslist? Do I make a facebook page for my photography and go that route? <
The thing is I've never been super at self promotion, and tend to be more reserved and let my results speak for them self, rather than flailing about for attention or sounding like an over confident self important jerk-ass. I've met a couple self important over confident jerk-asses, and sometimes they even turn me off to photography or whatever it is that our interests have in common after hearing them speak for a few moments about that topic.
So what to do... To be continued?
The best time I've had in Las Vegas yet. I saw a few of the things they do like the water shows at the Bellagio and Sirens of TI of which I hadn't seen yet.
Most importantly we saw Muse. I've never been to such a big show with so much production and show to it. Huge screens moving about and showing awesome stuff, enough lasers to take out a ICBM, all the colors of the spectrum represented in lights, huge eyeballs falling from the top of the venue, and really good music.
On Easter I shot the Love Lounge Show at Dante's in Portland. It was a fun show to shoot and a great place to have a drink and hang out as well.
This Friday Kala and I leave for Las Vegas to catch the Muse concert, as we were not able to make it to the Portland show on the Saturday the 3rd as Kala was getting baptized and confirmed that same evening.
